Acclaimed author and avid RVer Brad Herzog has written several travel memoirs about his road trips through small-town America, including States of Mind and Small World. Brad's latest book, Greek to Me (May 2009), is his cross-country version of The Odyssey. Approximating the classic journey of Odysseus recounted in the ancient Greek epic, Herzog made his way from Mount Olympus in Washington state to his college reunion in Ithaca, New York. Along the way, he passed through tiny hamlets with names like Athena (Oregon) and Apollo (Pennsylvania), Troy (Oregon) and Sparta (Wisconsin), Calypso (Montana) and Pandora (Ohio).
Along with writing travel books, Brad is the author of a series of alphabet picture books for children, so he considers it perfect "research" to travel in an RV for two months each summer with his wife, Amy, and their two sons, Luke and Jesse.
In their travels, the Herzog family has passed through 48 states, visited more than a dozen national parks and sampled a full helping of the American experience --including Grand Canyon and Pike's Peak, Disneyland and Graceland, Gettysburg and the Alamo, Deadwood and Dodge City, the Gateway Arch and the Space Needle, Wrigley Field and Churchill Downs, the Kennedy Space Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the White Sands of New Mexico and the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Because of their vast experience in traveling in an RV, the Herzogs have been designated the national "Explore America Family." As an expert at discovering out-of-the-way gems and quirky locations and a fanatic about mapping and planning their excursions, Brad gladly shares his secrets, tips and advice through "You Are Here: Brad Herzog's Family Travel Journal".
