One of my most memorable fishing experiences happened just last year at the B.A.S.S. Elite event in La Crosse, Wisconsin, sponsored by Go RVing.
It all started at an amazing RV park. We pulled up and were greeted by a six-pack of the local brew, Spotted Cow. What an awesome start to the tournament. We set up for the 1st practice day and the fishing was really good. I remember being super excited because I felt like I found the fish to win the event using my favorite bait, the frog.
On the first morning of blastoff, I ran to the place where I wanted to start and quickly got stuck on a sandbar. I figured it was over for me, so I thought I'd better sit down and get my head together. Instead of wasting time, I jumped in the water and started to push my boat off the sandbar.
It took well over an hour. I was so tired; I didn't want to do anything. I decided to just start fishing right there (in an area I had not practiced in), and I immediately started reeling in fish with the frog. I fished around the area and caught one after another until I worked my way up to the top of the leaderboard.
After all that, I wound up winning! When we made it back to the campground, I was stoked to tell the owner I had won the event. We were all so excited that we enjoyed some Spotted Cow and toasted to my victory. It was probably the most relaxed I had ever been at an event, and it couldn't have turned out any better.
