Campfire Potatoes

Prep Time: 45-60 minutes

Cook Method: Campfire

Ingredients and Directions

Ingredients

  • Potatoes (as many as needed)
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 tub or package butter or margarine
  • Pepper
  • Garlic powder
  • Seasoned salt (if desired)
  • Foil (enough to wrap each potato)

Directions

If you are camping, boil your potatoes whole until soft. If not, put the potato in foil. Slice the potato longways, but not all the way through. Then slice 4 or 5 times the other way, but not all the way through, until it opens up like a flower. Slice your onion into rings, then slice the circles in half. Separate the onions and put a few slices in and around the potato. Add a good spoon of butter or margarine. Sprinkle some pepper, garlic and seasoned salt, and close foil around potato, twisting the ends. I set them in the fire or on the grill, and in the winter in the oven. Cook them as you're cooking your meat, etc. The onion cooks into the potato as do the butter and seasonings. If you start with raw potatoes, they need at least an hour; if they're already boiled, they need 1/2 hour or so. They are so good! I don't think I've eaten less than one. And leftovers are good for breakfast with eggs, etc. It really does not take long to make. Enjoy! We do!
