EV Charging at Campgrounds: An Overview
Planning your next RV adventure and wondering about keeping your electric vehicle charged up along the way? You're not alone! While the infrastructure is still developing, progress is being made to integrate EV charging into the camping experience. From dedicated EV charging stations to innovative RV parks designed with EV drivers in mind, let's explore the growing landscape of EV charging at campgrounds.
For example, Kings River RV Resort in Kingsburg, California, is making a significant stride and is anticipated to be the first RV park in the Golden State to offer electric vehicle (EV) connections at every single site before this summer. While at least 66 RV parks across the U.S. already offer some form of EV charging, the commitment to providing this amenity at each site is still relatively rare. Notably, Skye Texas Hill Country Resort near Fredericksburg, Texas, holds the distinction of being the first park built from the ground up with EV charging capabilities at every site, alongside other modern conveniences like gigabit-speed WiFi, since its opening in 2024.
The well-established KOA franchise network is also actively participating in this shift, with at least 28 of their campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada currently equipped with EV charging. Recognizing the increasing demand, KOA has even compiled helpful lists of national parks and state parks that offer EV charging stations.
However, navigating the availability of EV charging at campgrounds still requires a bit of proactive research. It's worth noting that not all campgrounds with EV charging facilities clearly indicate this on their websites. Therefore, a direct conversation with the park staff is often the best way to confirm the type of EV charging systems they offer and ensure they meet your specific needs.

Final Thoughts
Campgrounds that do not offer EV charging on-site will be able to recommend charging stations nearby. Additionally, the U.S. Department of Energy has produced a database of publicly accessible EV charging stations across the country, which can be accessed here. If you own and operate a campground or RV park with EV charging that would like to be added to this listing, please email Jeff Crider at [email protected] with the details.
