Revolutionary Roads: A Long Weekend RV Adventure Through Boston
Explore Boston's historical highlights on an unforgettable RV road trip.
Overview
Boston is one of those cities that feels overwhelming if you try to tackle all it has to offer by car, subway, or tour bus. But in an RV? You’ve got the best of both worlds–adventure and relaxation. Stay at scenic campgrounds outside the bustle of the city, then drive straight to must-see spots like Lexington and Concord, park with ease, and cover more ground at your own pace. With an RV as your base, you can combine legendary battlefields, world-class museums, and even swan boat rides in Boston Common into a 4-day RV road trip without the stress of downtown lodging, tight parking, or fixed schedules.
Lexington and Concord
Start your adventure where the Revolution began: Lexington and Concord, just a short drive from Boston and right on the way from your campground. Walk the Battle Road Trail at Minute Man National Historical Park, explore Meriam’s Corner, and stand on the iconic North Bridge, where “the shot heard ’round the world” was fired.
History comes alive here with ranger talks, restored colonial homes, and scenic trails that feel a world away from the city. It’s the perfect RV-friendly stop: designated RV parking, picnic-friendly grounds, and plenty of room to stretch your legs after the drive.

The Boston Freedom Trail
After a relaxing morning at camp, head into Boston to tackle the Freedom Trail—a 2.5-mile walkable red-brick path linking 16 historic landmarks. Highlights include Boston Common, Old North Church, Paul Revere’s House, and Faneuil Hall.
Wrap up with dinner in Boston’s North End—famous for Italian food—and return to your campground for a relaxing evening.
Note: It’s best to leave your RV setup at camp as it’s easiest to navigate downtown Boston by car, bike, or rail plus you can come back with your RV ready to welcome you in for the evening after a big day!

Bunker Hill, USS Constitution, and the Tea Party
Pick up where you left off on the Freedom Trail yesterday with Boston’s northern highlights: the Bunker Hill Monument and the legendary USS Constitution, still afloat after more than 200 years.
Then switch gears at the lively Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, where you can toss “tea” into the harbor yourself. It’s interactive, kid-friendly, and one of the city’s most fun history stops.

Boston’s Black Heritage Trail and JFK Library
Discover another side of Boston on the Black Heritage Trail, which highlights the African Meeting House (the oldest surviving Black church in the U.S.) and homes that once sheltered freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad.
Then head to the waterfront for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum. With exhibits on JFK’s presidency, Jacqueline Kennedy’s fashion, and even Ernest Hemingway’s personal collection, it’s a moving way to close out your Boston stay.
If you have some time remaining on day 4, close your adventure out at Boston Common or stroll through the Public Garden, famous for its swan boats. If you have kids with you, they will love the swan boats!

Short On Time? Here’s a Quick Tip:
Pick a couple of the many attractions to visit shared in this itinerary and then opt to spend more time at your campground enjoying amenities such as a farm animal petting zoo, beach volleyball, an outdoor cinema, and time with Fido at the dog park. Who said an itinerary can’t be shifted to enjoy more downtime?
Final Thoughts
Boston is a city everyone should experience—but doing it by RV makes it stress-free, flexible, and far more fun. You’ll cover ground from Concord’s rolling battlefields to Boston’s buzzing waterfront, with the comforts of your own RV and campground waiting before and after each day’s adventure.
