Leaving the City Behind

Allan and Bernie have traveled the world but there was a lot of the U.S. that they hadn't experienced until they bought an RV to travel the country with their dogs Chihuly and Dale.

Leaving the City Behind: How One Urban Couple Discovered the Freedom of RVing

Having traveled to nearly 30 countries around the world, Atlanta, GA couple Bernie and Allan realized that, despite all their international journeys, they hadn't yet explored their own backyard.

Coming from the fast-paced, vibrant heart of downtown Atlanta, hitting the open road in an RV opened up a whole new perspective on travel, pet-friendly adventures, and intentional living.

From Downtown Atlanta to Open Skies

Living in Castleberry Hill—a historic arts district in downtown Atlanta—means being surrounded by city energy, local galleries, and hip neighborhood spots. As an Atlanta real estate agent and the lead primate keeper at Zoo Atlanta, the couple has been fully immersed in urban life.

However, the open road offered a distinct shift in pace:

  • Unplugging from Urban Routines: RV travel provides an opportunity to engage in outdoor activities and relaxing routines that aren't part of daily life in the city.
  • Exploring the United States: Instead of boarding international flights, traveling by RV allowed them to experience national parks, state forests, and scenic routes across the country.

The Ultimate Pet-Friendly Travel Experience

One of the greatest highlights of RVing for the couple is the ability to bring their dogs along for every journey.

"You're bringing your home with you,” says Allan. “They're comfortable, they have their own sights and smells, so they're very happy."

Traditional air travel or hotel stays often require leaving pets behind or navigating strict weight and breed limits. Traveling in an RV ensures that four-legged family members remain relaxed in familiar surroundings no matter where the road leads.

Space for What Matters Most

Life on the open road naturally distills your gear down to the true necessities. What starts as a lesson in packing smart soon transforms into the ultimate perk of RV travel. Swapping excess baggage for open horizons and unforgettable experiences delivers an unmatched sense of freedom—what the couple calls 'the best feeling in the world.’
