Having an RV gives John and Heather the perfect vehicle to visit the hidden gems in their own backyard. They love collecting stamps in their National Park passport and exploring local and regional state parks that they might never have visited if they were limited to traditional hotel stays.
2. The Freedom of Solar Power & Boondocking
Their newest RV is their first to feature a full solar setup, which has been a game-changer. It allows them to stay in beautiful spots without full hookups—like waking up just 100 steps from the Atlantic Ocean. With solar power running the outlets, microwave, and even the air conditioner off-grid, John (a self-proclaimed "IT gear nerd") says it’s completely stress-free.
3. Traveling with David, the "Camping Dog"
RVing means their 12-year-old Havanese mix, David, gets to join the adventure. While he was hesitant about car rides as a puppy, David now runs to the door the moment they say they are going camping. For John and Heather, the trip wouldn't be complete without him smelling new scents and meeting friends at the campground dog parks.
4. Taking Safe, Gluten-Free Meals on the Road
For Heather, the RV kitchen is a medical necessity. Because she must adhere to a strict gluten-free diet for medical reasons, traveling via hotels and relying on local restaurants is often stressful or impossible. Their RV's fully equipped kitchen—complete with a convection oven, freezer, and outdoor propane grill—allows her to travel safely with a fully stocked pantry and fridge.
5. Working Remotely from Anywhere
As an IT professional, John uses a Starlink setup to squeeze more out of their weekends. By bringing high-speed broadband on the road, they can leave on a Thursday or return on a Monday, and John can attend Zoom meetings while looking out the window at the beach. It has even become a running joke with his coworkers to guess where he is logging in from each week.
6. Cozying Up and Reconnecting
Above all, the RV forces John and Heather to disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect as a couple. Whether they are having an outdoor campfire or cozying up inside by the electric fireplace while Heather crochets, the RV serves as their ultimate stress-free sanctuary. As Heather notes, it provides a safe space that allows them to forget the hustle and bustle of daily life and simply enjoy quality time together.
