Giselle's Story

Catching Your First Wave

Giselle is passionate about the ocean and surfing and ensuring everyone has access to these special activities. Through her nonprofit, Los Courage Camps, she teaches Latinos and people of other ethnic backgrounds who have never experienced the ocean how to surf.

I think it's really rare to find moments where we get to come to a new place and already feel like we belong.

Giselle Carrillo

Giselle Carrillo is a Latina surfer living in east LA who has a non-profit to encourage inner-city youth to get outside and enjoy the ocean, particularly the LA youth who grow up minutes from the ocean yet have never experienced it. She is the founder of Los Courage Camps, an organization that helps to bridge the economic and cultural gaps that prevent the Latino community from going to the ocean to learn how to surf.
