Fun Times In Colorado: GoPro Mountain Games 2015

Once we got into Colorado, we made it from Denver to Buena Vista for our first event of what we call the “Colorado Tour”, the BV Pro Freestyle Kayaking event and CKS Paddlefest. The drive from Denver to “BV” really is a reminder that “we are not in Kansas anymore, Toto.” We go up in the mountains and the snow goes from what you see “up there” to what you see all around you. The open valleys when you come out of the passes are my favorite part of the drive.

I have always had the desire to travel. I remember the 4 and 1/2 hour, 222.5-mile trip from my childhood house in Woolrich, Pennsylvania, to my parents’ hometown of Leetonia, Ohio, starting in the old Appalachian Mountains and twisting through to the open farms and rolling hills to my grandparents’ house.

The Freedom Of RVing

For adults it’s easy to see the freedom RVing offers. We are liberated, if only for a short time, from the discipline of everyday life. No grass waving in the breeze waiting to be cut, no honey-do list on the refrigerator, no office commute.

Tips And Tricks To Pass Time In The Car

We’ve logged more than 70,000 miles in our truck as a family over the last three and half years. However, our road trips didn’t begin when we hit the road full time in our RV. When the boys were younger we had a folding camping trailer and it wasn’t unusual to take 8 hour drives to camp under the majestic redwoods in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range or head across the desert to visit family in Arizona.

A Taste Of Washington's Coast

Hubby has been teaching B the art of crabbing since the boy was two years old. Now that he is 11 we see all the years of experience he has as he baits the trap and tosses it over the dock like a pro. Moments later, we are startled by a huge sea lion. He decides to jump out of the water on the dock across from us to have a look around. The local fishermen tell us that this particular sea lion is probably around 400 pounds! He was really cute and I couldn’t help but snap a picture since he posed his best side for me.

Five Benefits Of Escaping In Our RV

My family suffers from one of society’s most common and prevalent afflictions: too much. Too much clutter, too much to do, too much general busy-ness. My husband and I are both self-employed Type-A personalities and there are many weeks when we work upwards of 50 to 60 hours. Our two daughters are both in competitive cheerleading that gobbles up eight hours each a week of their “spare” time. Add to the mix all the regular mundane chores like homework, laundry, and grocery shopping – and we have an active social life.

It’s 8 o’clock on a sunny Saturday morning. We’re happily camping at the McCall RV Resort in the sweet mountain town of McCall, Idaho and life at this moment could not be better. It’s a Saturday morning and Brent is playing with our 10-month-old baby who has already been up for a few hours. Meanwhile, our older boys, who are almost 15 and 13, are snoozing like logs in the back of the RV. It’s been said that babies challenge parents physically and teens present a more emotional challenge as they forge their own identities.

Go Baby Go, Go RVing

We were in a campground on the Washington coast the day we found out we were expecting our third baby. It was a cool summer day and the breeze carried the salty smell of the ocean. Having been traveling full time in our RV for almost two years, we were one state short of hitting our goal to see 48 contiguous states. Our plans for the future were now uncertain.
