Go RVing This Mother's Day and Father's Day

Enjoy these fun family activities this Mother's Day and Father's Day.

Moms and Dads are increasingly being celebrated at campgrounds across the country with a variety of special Mother’s Day and Father’s Day weekend activities.

Mother’s Day weekend activities range from “paint-and-sip” activities to “Mom’s Night Out” craft activities to family dances, Karaoke, and chocolate and wine tasting events.

Father’s Day weekend typically involves competitive events, which could include everything from barbecue competitions to cornhole tournaments and fishing derbies to wheelbarrow racing, log-rolling and root beer chugging contests. Some parks even organize father-daughter dances. Many campgrounds also offer craft activities for children to make cards and other gifts for their parents.

Here’s a sampling of some of the Mother’s and Father’s Day weekend activities taking place at campgrounds this spring:

Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Holiday in Watsonville: Family activities at this campground include a Mother’s Day picnic, wine, and cheese by the pool, as well as coloring and ceramics. This campground is also planning fundraising activities over Mother’s Day weekend for Care Camps Foundation, a national non-profit organization that funds medically supervised pediatric oncology camps across the U.S. and Canada. This campground also plans to donate a portion of its weekend proceeds to support the Care Camps Foundation. Father’s Day weekend activities include craft activities, “Dad versus Dad” pool challenges, including a “Dad Bod Contest,” a “Kids versus Dads” tug of war, several “Minute to Win It” games as well as beer and cheese by the pool.

Fort Collins / Lakeside KOA in Fort Collins: Mother’s Day weekend activities begin with s’mores on Friday night. Saturday’s activities include a fun run/walk and other activities, including an ice cream social, raffle and silent auction, with proceeds being donated to the Care Camps Foundation. Kids will be able to make a Mother’s Day card for their moms on Sunday. Father’s Day weekend activities include a “Best ‘Dad Bod’ Contest,” and a fishing derby. Kids will also be able to build and blast their own rocket.

Clearwater / Lake Tarpon KOA Holiday in Palm Harbor: Mother’s Day weekend at this park features mimosas for mom in a heated pool, wine tasting and wine glass painting, exquisite chocolate tasting, craft classes, a campground community bonfire, and a Mother’s Day movie marathon. Father’s Day weekend includes festive music; a barbecue with hot dogs and beers; competitive events, including a putting green challenge and cornhole tournament; an action movie night; and a homemade all-you-can-eat Belgian waffle breakfast.

  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Pierceton: Campers are encouraged to bring their noisemakers because Mother’s Day weekend at this campground also involves waking up Yogi Bear for the 2024 camping season. Guests will also be able to join Yogi Bear and his friends in a parade and participate in various Mother’s Day challenges versus the kids. Several competitive events are planned for Father’s Day weekend, including a nail and hammer relay challenge, a dads-versus-kids hot dog eating and root beer chug challenge, a father-child fishing contest, and dads- versus-kids kickball fun. Dads will also be able to enjoy an evening full of brats.
     
  • Tall Sycamore Campground in Logansport: Mother’s Day weekend activities include a Mother’s Day recipe exchange. Moms are also encouraged to bring samples of things they make homemade to share with other ladies. A potluck dinner is also planned. Father’s Day weekend activities include a kids’ Father’s Day activity and a potluck dinner. Non-denominational church services with coffee and donuts are also planned for both Mother’s and Father’s Day weekends.

Land-O-Pines Family Campground in Covington: This campground will have a “wine ’n paint” party for moms, a paid activity that includes a canvas to paint on, paints, a bottle of wine, a corkscrew, a glass, and hors d’oeuvres. Father’s Day weekend activities include dad/child waterslide races, horseshoe and corn hole tournaments, and a unique scavenger hunt titled “Find the Hidden Beer.”

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Madison: Mother’s Day weekend activities include a craft activity to make mom a gift, mom and child games, and a wine and paint class for moms. Father’s Day weekend features several competitive events, including an around-the-park donut dash, a donut-eating contest, and a corn hole tournament. Kids will also have a chance to make a gift for dad and there will be a “Dad’s Grillin’ Competition.

Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday in Williamsport: Mother’s Day weekend activities include a magic show on Friday evening. Saturday’s activities include a craft activity for kids to honor their moms in the morning and a wine social later in the day. Father’s Day weekend activities also start with a magic show on Friday evening. Saturday’s activities include a morning craft activity to honor dad as well as wheel barrel racing and a fire-making contest. Both Mother’s and Father’s Day weekends will have fundraising activities for the Care Camps Foundation.

  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Carsonville: For Mother’s Day weekend kids will have a chance to create a one-of-a-kind gift for their moms, from handcrafted cards to personalized photo frames. Father’s Day weekend activities include a craft activity for kids to celebrate dad as well a fishing tournament.

  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Grayling: This campground’s “Renaissance Revival Weekend” coincides with Mother’s Day. Activities include designing your own coat of arms, crafting a personal princess crown, and treating mom like a queen in honor of Mother’s Day. Other activities include pool noodle jousting and a javelin toss. Moms will also be able to enjoy some peace and quiet during a painting activity. This campground celebrates Father’s Day with a week of “slime-tastic adventures.” “Be prepared to squish, stretch, smell, and maybe even taste your way to slime satisfaction,” the campground warns on its event planner, noting that slimy games and a gooey glide on a slimy slip & slide await. The week’s adventures also include a Junior Ranger training camp and a celebration of dads with an epic burger cookoff.
     
  • Jellystone Park in South Haven: This campground celebrates Mother’s Day weekend by providing free chair massages for moms on Saturday. Moms will also be able to enjoy a craft activity with a glass of sparkling juice, cheese, and crackers. This campground also celebrates dads June 14-20 with a “Cowboys & Petticoats Week.” Activities include wild west-themed games and challenges like lassoing competitions and horseshoe tournaments. There will also be a hoedown dance party.

Great Escapes RV Resort in Branson: This park doesn’t begin its weekend activities early enough to celebrate Mother’s Day. However, families can celebrate Father’s Day weekend as they watch dad compete in root beer chugging and log rolling contests. Kids will also have a chance to make a gift for their dads.

  • Catskill Mountains / Gilboa KOA Holiday in Gilboa: In addition to donating a portion of its weekend proceeds to Care Camps Foundation, this park has invited Diederich's RV Mart to display some of its RVs. A Sass Squatch food truck will also be on hand and wine tasting will be provided by Middleburgh Winery. Karaoke is planned for Saturday night. Father’s Day weekend activities include a return of the Sass Squatch food truck, beer tasting with Wayward Lane Brewing and Green Wolf Brewing Co. and a DJ for musical entertainment on Saturday night.
     
  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Endicott: This campground celebrates mom with lots of sweet activities,  including a “Death by Chocolate” eating contest, candy bar bingo, and a chocolate slide. Guests can also sign up to have a chocolate gram delivered to Mom by one of the Jellystone Park characters. Father’s Day weekend features a “dads only” cornhole tournament, a minigolf tournament, and adults versus kids wiffleball and kickball competitions.
     
  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Mexico: Mother’s Day weekend activities at this park include a massage for mom and a “Sip ’n Paint” event. Kids staying at this campground over Father’s Day weekend can make a special craft for dad, participate in a “Dress like Dad” contest, and play in the park’s annual mini golf tournament. There will also be an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on Sunday.
     
  • Medina / Wildwood Lake KOA Holiday in MedinaThere will be a Mother’s Day craft activity on Saturday as well as live musical entertainment for all ages and a free pancake breakfast for moms on Sunday. Father’s Day weekend activities also feature a craft activity, live music for all ages, a free pancake breakfast for dads and a poker run with proceeds being donated to the  Care Camps Foundation.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Tabor City: Mother’s Day activities at this campground include a “Moms Night Out” for painting and snacks. A breakfast delivery service will also be available to surprise mom on Sunday morning. Father’s Day weekend activities include fishing, root beer chugging and splash contests. Arrangements can also be made to surprise dad with a breakfast delivery on Sunday morning.

  • Jellystone Park in Big Prairie: Mother’s Day weekend activities include crafts for mom, a pastel tie dye activity, and a themed movie. Father’s Day weekend activities include obstacle course, race games, crafts, laser tag, and wagon rides.
     
  • Lake Milton / Berlin Lake KOA in Milton: Mother’s Day weekend activities include kids’ crafts as well as fun time for moms with an instructor who will provide makeup tips. Muffins and drinks will also be provided during the session. Evening activities include a hayride and bonfire. Father’s Day weekend activities include kids’ crafts, music on the beach and a foam party, weather permitting, nighttime dancing and Karaoke with dad, and a bonfire.
     
  • Rustic Knolls Campsites & Cabins in Mt. Vernon: Moms are celebrated with games of woman’s cornhole, Mother’s Day crafts, and a Mother’s Day breakfast. A smoker cook-off is planned for Father’s Day weekend as well as a potluck and Father’s Day crafts.
     
  • Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA in Thompson: Mother’s Day weekend activities include a mother-daughter teatime, planting flowers for mom, and creating something special for Mother’s Day. This campground is also donating a portion of its Mother’s Day weekend proceeds to the Care Camps Foundation. Father’s Day weekend activities include a fishing tournament, field games and a dads only cornhole tournament. Kids can also make a craft for dad while enjoying a few slices of Hunts Brothers Pizza.
  • Keen Lake Camping & Cottage Resort in Waymart: Mother’s Day weekend activities include morning yoga and a paint and sip fundraiser for a victim’s intervention program, and a craft activity to make cards and gifts for mom. Massage appointments will also be available. Horse-drawn carriage and horseback rides are also available nearby at Happy Trails Stables. Father’s Day weekend activities include a contest with prizes for best authentic and best faux mustache. There will also be a fishing contest and chainsaw art carving by artist Larry Wildenstein.
     
  • Rose Point Park in New Castle: This park celebrates moms with a Mother’s Day craft activity, dancing with “Marty’s Bubble Gum Machine,” hand-cranked ice cream, and a Mother’s Day breakfast. Father’s Day weekend activities include a family campers quiz show, a reptile program with “Iceman Reptile,” and a traditional pancake breakfast on Father’s Day.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Brandon: Campers who spend Mother’s Day weekend at this park will have a chance to make a gift for mom. Mom will also receive a special gift and a hug from Yogi Bear. This park celebrates dads with an “All Star” week of activities June 10-16, including a “Super Soak Your Dad” event. There will also be free food truck breakfasts for dads and an “All Star” dance on Saturday night.

  • Great Escapes RV Resort in Bryan: This campground celebrates moms with a “Mom’s Night Out” in which they can design a steppingstone for their garden. Kids will also have an opportunity to make a special craft for their mom. Biscuit, the park’s corgi mascot, will also have a special gift for moms. Father’s Day weekend activities include a root beer chugging contest for dads as well as a log rolling competition. Kids will also have a chance to create a gift for their dads.
     
  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Burleson: Mother’s Day weekend activities include handmade crafts for children to make for their moms, a “Mini Me” dress like mom contest, and a Mother’s Day wagon ride. Moms will also have a chance to participate in the park’s annual “My Mom Ain’t No Sissy” challenge in which moms demonstrate what it takes to be a mom through a series of fun and engaging tasks that celebrate the strength and awesomeness of motherhood. Guests will also be encouraged to serenade mom with a special performance of her favorite song on the Star Struck Karaoke Stage. This campground also celebrates dads with a full week of activities, including crafts, games, fishing, and competitive events. Guests can challenge their dads’ taste buds in a blindfolded chili pepper tasting contest and watch as the dads face the heat and try to identify the different chili peppers. Dads can also compete in a burger cook-off and submit their signature burger for a chance to claim the title of Grillmaster Extraordinaire. There will also be a “Copycat Dress Like Dad: Rockstar Edition” contest and a “Silly Mustache Selfies with Dad” scavenger hunt.
  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort on Chincoteague Island: This park celebrates Mother’s Day weekend with crafts, games and muffins for mom. Father’s Day weekend features crafts, games, a father-daughter dance, and donuts with dad.
     
  • Misty Mountain Camp in Greenwood: Mother’s Day weekend starts with a Friday bonfire with s’mores. Saturday activities include an ice cream social, a scavenger hunt and live music. Moms receive free roses on Sunday along with complimentary coffee and donuts. The Friday of Father’s Day weekend includes a bonfire, s’mores, and live music while Saturday features dads versus kids games, a bonfire and movie, with complimentary coffee and donuts being provided on Sunday.
  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Sturgeon Bay: This northern campground doesn’t open early enough to celebrate Mother’s Day. However, dads are celebrated in a big way on Father’s Day weekend with a free game of mini golf. Dads can also in compete in a Father’s Day Big Splash Contest. There will also be a chocolate pudding-eating contest for all those willing to eat — without a spoon! A DJ dance party is planned for Saturday night.

  • Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Warrens: Mother’s Day weekend activities include opportunities for kids to make a one-of-a-kind craft for their moms as well as a “Guess What’s in the Diaper” contest, and free pancakes for mom. This park also has a Father’s Day Week that includes a craft activity for children to honor their dads, a “Guess That Baby Food” contest, a cornhole tournament, and free pancakes for dads.
